History of Sathya Shodhana Trust:
Before 1999 Ajja was
staying at different locations for few months at a time, generally in
the residence of householder devotees. Here often he would remark that
it was not possible for him to reside in a private place. At first the
devotees were at a loss as to what to do for they had no idea as to what
a public place was. Some suggested a park, others the bus stand but these
were clearly off the mark. Finally, it was made known that a Trust would
have to be formed to provide the necessary platform from which people
could have the benefit of Satsang with Ajja without inconveniencing the
devotees at whose house Ajja stayed(for the people simply thronged to
Ajja and at all times. He insisted on a complete open door policy). The
devotees then scouted out available land in Bangalore but He pointed that
formation of a Trust was not easy. In the sense that land may be purchased
and buildings constructed but what would be the activity on a regular
basis? Things slowed down a bit at Bangalore. When Ajja was in Puttur
in Bolwar that with the help of local people that a Trust was set up and
the place chosen around Feb.1999. In fact this Trust was a mere rejuvenation
of the old Sathya Shodhana Samiti founded by the first devotees of Ajja
who would sit in silent meditation every day in the Venkataramana Temple
in Puttur( This practice continued for 12 long years).
The first few rooms( Ajja's room, ladies and gents room, Dhyan Mandir
and kitchen block) were built and declared open on 7th May 1999. Ajja
moved in shortly thereafter and nothing much happened for the first year
or so. Then by July 2000 He changed the gear and undertook landscaping
and balance of construction jobs. In Feb. 2001, He started work on the
Nirvana complex(Hall below and rooms above) and this was completed by
around Dec.2001. He moved in to his new room Bayalu then. For the next
5 years or so a number of jobs were undertaken. He was the Architect,
planner, executor all rolled into one. During this entire phase the Trust
was virtually a non existent entity merely serving His command and fulfilling
the statutory requirements.
After Ajja's taking ill and subsequently dropping the body, the Trust
is now actively managing the Ashram through its office bearers though
in reality He still is very much in charge and only His will and writ
runs. The Trust provides infrastructure to sincere seekers of Truth without
any restriction on caste, creed, religion or sex. It concerns itself with
the spiritual content only of Mahatma Gandhi's life( In trying to adopt
his principles and values). However, it is made
clear that it does not and cannot provide any spiritual guidance for that
is only His privilege and prerogative.
There is an attempt to tread his path as described in the section
Divya Jeevana. Visitors are encouraged to spend time in spiritual pursuit.
People desiring to stay there can do so after informing any of the people
mentioned in the list of contact nos.
